Vladimir Propp
According to
Vladimmir Propp in each music video we see several types of characters which
appear in every storyline which are:
· Hero - person on the quest
· Princes/prince - Prize that the hero will get
· Helper – helps the hero on his/her quest
· False Hero – Somebody who believes they are hero
· Dispatcher – Sends the hero on the quest
· Father - Rewards the hero
· Villian – Attempts to stop the hero on his quest
· Donor – Provides objects to help the hero on his
quest
However it is not
necessary that in every music video’s storyline each of these characters
appear.
Imagine Dragons- “Radioactive”
Hero- the hero in
this music video is female. It is the one which we see at the beginning of the
video carrying some kind of cage and also at the end of the video when she
saves her friends.
Princes/prince i.e
the target of the hero- During the whole video we see several men in the
prison, who are the actual band. They are stuck in the prison and are waiting
for help.
Helper – In this case
the helper is the toy which was in the women’s cage in the beginning of the
video. The toy destroyed the enemy toy which was killing all the other toys.
Therefore in order to get into the prison and rescue the prisoners the women
had to get rid of the bad toy, which eventually was killed by the one she
brought into the arena.
Villain – In this
case the villain is the person sitting on the top of the arena smoking cigars.
He is the one in control of the whole arena fights and the one who owns the
gorilla toy which kills all the other toys.
