Focus Group

A focus group is a form of qualitative research in which a group of people are asked about their perceptions, opinions, beliefs, and attitudes towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea

After finishing product of any type it is important to get feedback, thus to understand the flaws and problems. By doing this you learn on your mistakes and get closer to understanding different people's tastes, gaining valuable experience.

We decided that making a such focus group would be quit useful for us, therefore we emailed a number of people to gather at a certain time in our media classroom. So the difference is that you can actually see their emotions and facial expressions, whereas by doing it on online you wouldn't be able to see. Moreover you can freely discuss with them your video, which allows them to fully express their thoughts and opinions, making the information more valid

Our Web-Site

The home page of the web-site shows a shining diamond in the top of the page, which is the logo our band. In addition we also have the name of our band which is above the logo. This is quit conventional because in the home pages of most of the bands it is not surprising to see the logo and the name of the band in the top of the page

Below it we have our video of the song ‘Flawless’. It could be argued that it is to some extent unconventional, since to find the band’s video you need to go to YouTube, whereas we made it easier and made it possible to watch the video on our web page. Moreover we got a separate box with our song in it, which you can listen any time
In the bottom of our web-site we have our latest news of the band and the dates when they are performing. It is a conventional part of a web-site since we are expected to see these features in most of the musical band’s web-sites.
The links our web-site have are: Home Page, Info, Gallery, Music, Merch. It is a conventional part of a web-site since it is normal and usual to see these links, since they are the ones which are the most important ones. Moreover on the bottom of our page we have the links to Twitter and Facebook, since they are the internet social tools which are used the most, which is the way of spreading information about our band and increasing the word of mouth.

The conventions and creativity of our music clip

Our opening of the video starts from a diamond in the middle of the screen and a girl dancing in slow motion in the frame of the diamond. This is quit unconventional, since the idea of a girl dancing in the frame of the diamond is not seen in many videos and is not to be expected, especially in the beginning of the clip

The shot is a close-up of our singer. The main idea of this close-up is to show the singer’s emotions and his facial expression while singing. This is quit conventional, since in most of the music clips, especially in this type, where there is no narrative and the whole clip is showing the member of the bands performing, close-ups of the members of the band are frequently used. A good example of such use of close up would be the music videos with Justin Bieber, where this type of shot is used frequently

In these two seconds we did a cross cutting showing the dancing girl with a huge shawl and the part of a male’s body being projected with an images of street, cars, people walking around the street. The cross cutting itself is frequently used in many music videos, being a conventional part of a video. However what was unusual and original is the dancing girl on the black back ground in slow motion and the male’s body being projected with different images, being an unconventional part of the video. This type of cutting is usually used in action music clips

The shot is a wide shot showing the whole band performing. It is a conventional part of the clip, as in mostly all music clips showing band playing it is a usual thing to see a wide shot of the whole band. This wide shot is a conventional shit and is used almost in all videos with a band performing

This is a medium close-up showing the guitar of the bass player and the drummer. The shot itself is conventional, as it is frequently used in clips. However what is creative is the neon triangle behind the band, which signifies the logo of band, diamond

In these three seconds we used a medium close up tracking from the side shot, to show the drummer playing. The shot itself is quit unconventional since it is not simple a tracking shot or a medium close-up but a mixture. The creativity consists in the idea of the drummer playing in the black back ground. If separated it would be quit a simple shot, but if fused it is an unconventional part of our clip.

Introduction

                          Flawless

The name of our music clip is ‘Flawless’, by The DMND, which is the name of our group. The music genre is indie/rock, which is an emerging and is a recent type of genre which arose in USA and UK in the 1980s. It consists of 4 members: The guitarist, the bass player, drummer and the singer. Our logo is a diamond, which we show at the beginning of the video, as a opening sequence. The clip doesn’t have a narrative and is shot in the studio.
