A music genre is a conventional category that identifies pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. The term music genre is used to refer to a variety of facets of music, including the period during which a musical composition was written, its style, its instrumentation and treatment of those instruments, its form and function, its means of transmission, its means of dissemination, and the location of its geographical origins sometimes crossed with the cultural or ethnic background of the composer.

Genre is important since it allows audience to know what kind of film or identify what genre of music it is, thus, finding products that audiences already enjoyed. It frames the understanding of individual texts, which are interpreted in light of audience’s existing knowledge of genre. It undoubtedly provides a pleasure of familiarity and also of difference.
Moreover it is also important for producers and label companies to know what kind of music they are going to produce, thus targeting specific audience type.
Each of these genres has unique musical characteristics and can be associated with other factors, such as clothing, hair and lifestyle, which is shown by each picture being different to each other.

Image of the singer is really important as it is the key factor of presenting yourself. Each artist, depending on it’s genre of music would have its own image, as an example rappers would wear ripped jeans, t-shirt revealing their body and caps whereas artists such as Adele would wear classic, retro clothing, creating an image of being serious singer.
