Pop Stars

Dead rock stars appeal to people because their death allows something nebulous to become a story with a beginning a middle and an end. “Pat Gilbert”.

A celebrity death creates headlines, often rekindling fan interest that may have ebbed. Michael Jackson sold more music in the week of his death than he had for years.
While pop music changes, and is constantly evolving into a variety of hybrid forms, pop stars retain common characteristics. The song change, but the singers remain the same.

·         Youthfulness
·         Rebellion
·         Sexual Magnetism
·         An anti-authoritarian attitude
·         Originality
·         Creativity/talent
·         Aggression/anger
·         A disregard for social values relating to drugs, sex and polite behaviour
·         Conspicuous consumption, of sex drugs and material goods
·         Success against the odds

However as the time passes thought it becomes more difficult for stars to remain a star as the longer the remains successful on the world stage, the more difficult it is to continue to emboy these values and compete against others for originality. However eventually originality and creativity burn out.
